When you think of the things Ibiza is famous for, you probably think of superstar DJs, packed clubs, idyllic beaches and luxurious hotels. However, to those in the know, one of the island’s most enduring features is its spectacular sunset. One of the most breath taking in the Med, Ibiza sunsets are a truly must see experience. Combine the dramatic nightfall with the legendary Sunday drumming session at Benirras Beach, and you’ll have an Ibiza night to remember.
How it all started
One of the most welcoming islands you’ll ever come across, Ibiza has a long held reputation for peace and tranquillity. The island’s love of all things good and tolerant came to the fore in 1991 when a group of people gathered on Benirras Beach to play their drums in protest at the First Gulf War.
Known locally as The Day of The Drums, the event became an annual pilgrimage for drummers and pacifists from across the world. And though the annual event was discontinued by the authorities over ‘health and safety concerns’, hundreds still gather loyally on Benirras Beach every Sunday to drum down the sun and spread a bit of peace and love.
One of the best things about the Sunday drumming sessions on Benirras Beach – apart from the intoxicating atmosphere – is that they’re completely inclusive. Drummers and spectators come from all walks of life and all corners of the island. So whether you’re on Ibiza to party the week away, enjoy a luxury escape or have a family holiday in the sun, you’re guaranteed to feel welcome.
What else is on?
If you can tear yourself away from the hypnotic sound of the drums, you’ll find a market in Benirras packed full of hippy products and other interesting bits and pieces. There’s also the beach to enjoy if you fancy cooling off with a dip, or you can hole up in one of the nearby restaurants and bars and people watch to your heart’s content.
A summer #sunday must do… The perfect sunset viewed from Cala Benirrás Beach with the sounds of the hippy drummers on the beach a truly romantic and bohemian authentic Ibizan vibe. #ibiza

Though the drummers will only be there on Sundays, the sun will set every day of the week. So if you’re not keen on crowds, won’t be around on Sunday or just want to enjoy a mid-week treat, head to the beach with a few friends and enjoy one of the best sunsets you’ll ever see.
An essential Ibiza experience, a trip to see the Benirras sunset will be an unforgettable part of your stay on the island. For other ideas on things to do and places to see, explore our site today or download our APP on IOS & Android
