Review | Defected goes out with a bang!

We may be storming through the season’s closing parties, leaving behind us a heavy week of music madness, but the Defected in the House closing party was a firm date on the clubbing calendar for passionate house-heads, myself included, and we made sure we saved some energy for this one.

Defected has seen a season of great moments, bringing people together through house music for a second smashing season at. If you’re looking for a night with bouncy vibes, anthemic tunes and the ultimate feel-good get down, you’ve hit the jackpot.

Defected made the perfect end of week jolly for what’s been a sensational week on Ibiza. Label boss Simon Dunmore cooked up a storm for the closing party – no defects whatsoever. Check out these four key ingredients that made the Defected closing party awesome!

Despite stiff competition across the island, the outrageous beefy sound system, state-of-the-art lighting and the very reasonably priced drinks of Defected at Eden make for a match made in heaven; the club stands at the heart of the San Antonio and Ibiza clubbing scene.

In the words of Simon Dunmore; “Our move to San Antonio has paid off.  San An remains the gateway for many and these kids are our future. Making nightlife affordable in Ibiza is key.”

Popular with residents and seasonal workers, many agree that Sunday nights at Eden is where it’s at. Just a stone’s throw from the home of many party-goers, this party guarantees that this San Antonio hotspot is jam-packed with familiar faces and is the best place to party with newfound friends. Our final opportunity to meet up with all the last ones standing, the no-go-homers and like-minded house fans – there was no stopping us!

The closing party line-up saw unforgettable headline sets from the driving forces of Defected, with back-to-back appearances and heated house sets from start to finish.

With an electric vibe from the start, revellers were treated to the sleazy G-house from Amine Edge & DANCE. The French duo, who usually hit the decks last, were first out this time, smashing the dancefloor with their high energy sets – the bar was set; the closing party meant business and we were straight in at the deep end.

It would not be a true Defected party on Ibiza without the Mambo Brothers making an appearance. With the funky break-dancers on the podium and beats pumping from Todd Terry and Dennis Ferrer, we got a taste one last time of what Defected is really all about.

Danny Howard and Sam Divine, radio hosts and essential Defected residents, gave us fist-pumping reactions with chart-toppers and sing-along tunes. As the party continued into the early house, Simon Dunmore saw his successful residency end on a high.

Deep House and Disco Vocals

Defected is what it says it is: “House Music All Life Long”.  Pure feel-good house music with anticipated drops and catchy disco vocals everyone can sing along to. It goes without saying there will be a handful of mainstream house hits, but we love them, not to mention a bit of Camelphat’s Cola which sends any dancefloor into a frenzy.

A step away from the more intense, hard-hitting techno sounds, Defected is a party that everybody can enjoy. The top 3 Stand out tracks from the evening for me included:

Can’t Get Enough (vocal club mix) – Soulsearcher – bringing a bit of disco funk to Defected, the vocal remix had everybody clapping along; a tune sure to put a smile on any clubber’s fac

Woz Not Woz (club mix) – Eric Prydz & Steve Angello – a funky masterpiece that cranked up the party a notch and saw ravers get lost in the music.

Lost – Amine Edge & DANCE – it’s been a while since we heard Amine Edge & DANCE’s Lost by Frank Ocean remix but hearing it on the superb VOID sound system near the end of a euphoric evening, the track never sounded so good.

Defected brought the best vibes to the dancefloor with timeless feel-good tunes and an ego-free crowd all there for the same reason: to enjoy the music and live for the moment.

The energy and enthusiasm was bouncing from behind the decks, reaching to every nook and cranny on the dancefloor – nobody was taking a seat at this party. With tunes this good, everyone had their best dancing shoes on.

No pretention, no techno-snobs, no matter whether you’re the worst dancer in the world or popping and locking like a member of Diversity, everyone was dancing the night away.  Under the disco ball, it was everybody’s time to let loose and shine. “In our house we are all equal” – we certainly felt that way.

If you were one of the lucky party-goers, you’ll be scrolling through your video log and awesome playlist wishing you could do it all over again. Another triumphant season; we can’t wait to see what Defected brings to Ibiza in 2019.
